Trauma

Trauma in this situation is thought of as emotional somatic trauma.  A lot of traumatic experiences (wether emotional, mental, physical or chemical) get stuck in the body and the nervous system.

Specific therapies like Somatic Experiencing and EMDR work with the nervous system to re-process the trauma and release the programmed response the nervous system has been running.

Examples of trauma we deal with:

  • • car accidents / whiplash
  • • sport accidents
  • • concussions
  • • PTSD
  • • verbal and physical abuse
  • • sexual abuse
  • • bullying

Solutions for somatic trauma:

Somatic Experiencing - Psychotherapy
Somatic Experiencing is a potent method for resolving trauma symptoms and relieving chronic stress. It is the life’s work of Dr. Peter Levine, resulting from his multidisciplinary study of stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics, together with over 45 years of successful clinical application. The SE approach releases traumatic shock, which is key to transforming PTSD and the wounds of emotional and early developmental trauma.

Psychotherapy
is the use of psychological methods, particularly when based on regular personal interaction, to help a person change behaviour and overcome problems in desired ways.  Psychotherapy aims to improve an individual's well-being and mental health, to resolve or mitigate troublesome behaviours, beliefs, compulsions, thoughts, or emotions, and to improve relationships and social skills. Certain psychotherapies are considered evidence-based for treating some diagnosed mental disorders.

Somatic Experiencing - Body Work
Pain and conditions that do not respond to other types of healing are often caught in the body due to a trauma. Car accidents, concussions are good examples of traumatic events that easily leave a residual effect in the body.
